The Microplastics Workout – Mr Motivator

Client: Grayling / Feed Films
Campaign: British Glass
Talent: Mr Motivator
Role: Director of Photography / Lighting Cameraman
Location: Big Shed Studios, Manchester
Cameras: Sony FX9 and Sony FX3
Year: 2022

I worked as Director of Photography and Lighting Cameraman on The Microplastics Workout, a lively sustainability campaign featuring fitness legend Mr Motivator.

Produced for British Glass through Grayling and Feed Films, the campaign encouraged people to choose glass instead of plastic. It combined fitness, humour and environmental awareness to make the subject of microplastics more accessible.

Filming in Manchester

We filmed the campaign at Big Shed Studios in Manchester. The creative approach needed to reflect Mr Motivator’s energy and colourful personality. Therefore, we developed a bright and upbeat visual style with a polished commercial finish.

I supplied and operated a Sony FX9 and Sony FX3 camera package. The FX9 served as the main camera, delivering detailed 4K images and natural colour reproduction. Meanwhile, the compact FX3 allowed us to capture additional angles and more dynamic coverage around the studio.

Commercial lighting and cinematography

I designed the lighting to create clean skin tones, balanced contrast and consistent exposure throughout the shoot. Moreover, the lighting complemented the colourful set and helped separate Mr Motivator from the background.

My responsibilities included cinematography, lighting and camera operation. I also worked closely with the director and production team to capture each exercise, performance and campaign message efficiently.

The completed campaign used Mr Motivator’s unique presenting style to communicate an important environmental message in a positive and entertaining way. You can find more information about glass recycling and sustainability through British Glass.

Tomorrow’s Creative provided the camera package, crew and production support for the studio production.
