I’m James Melrose, an experienced UK drone pilot and Director of Photography. I provide professional aerial filming for television, commercials, documentaries, corporate films and branded content.
I use compact DJI drone equipment to capture high-quality aerial footage across the UK. As a result, I can work quickly and efficiently in a wide range of locations.
Professional Aerial Filming
Drone footage can add scale, movement and context to a production. For example, it works well for establishing shots, landscapes, buildings, vehicles and outdoor action. It is also ideal for construction projects, property films and tourism campaigns.
In addition, I can capture smooth tracking shots and dramatic overhead views. These shots can help show the size, location and surroundings of a subject more clearly.
Drone Filming with a DOP’s Eye
My experience as a Director of Photography helps me match aerial footage with the wider visual style of each production. Therefore, I consider composition, lighting, camera movement and the direction of the ground-based footage.
This approach creates a consistent look across the finished film. It also ensures the drone footage supports the story rather than feeling separate from the rest of the production.
Safe and Carefully Planned Flights
I hold an A2 Certificate of Competency and carry appropriate commercial drone insurance. Before each flight, I review the location, weather, airspace and nearby hazards.
Some locations require extra planning or permission. However, I can review your proposed site and explain the available options before the shoot. Early planning helps the filming day run smoothly and reduces the risk of delays.
Drone Pilot Available Across the UK
I provide drone filming across Newcastle, Manchester, London, Glasgow and the rest of the UK. Clients can hire me as a dedicated drone operator. Alternatively, I can include aerial filming within a wider Director of Photography service or camera package.
You can also view examples of my aerial cinematography on my drone showreel.
