Car Crews with Supercar Blondie – Insight TV Series
Car Crews with Supercar Blondie is a six-part factual-entertainment series following automotive presenter Alexandra Hirschi as she explores alternative car cultures across the United States.
From street racing and the Houston SLAB community to lowriders, rat rods, muscle cars and drifting, the series uses extraordinary vehicles as a route into the people and communities behind them. Each episode combines access, automotive spectacle and contributor-led storytelling.
I worked as Director of Photography on the production, collaborating with director Matthew Wortman and Velocity Content for Insight TV. My role involved capturing the series in 4K on the Sony F55 while balancing polished automotive imagery with responsive factual coverage.
Director of Photography for Automotive Television
Automotive television needs to present the cars clearly while keeping the people and stories at the centre of the programme. Therefore, the visual approach combined carefully framed vehicle details with wider sequences that established each location and its distinct culture.
As DOP, I planned camera positions, lens choices and exposure around reflective bodywork, changing daylight and fast-moving action. At the same time, the camera setup needed to remain flexible enough for observational moments and spontaneous interactions.
My experience providing Director of Photography services helped the production move efficiently between cinematic car photography and contributor-led factual filming.
Sony F55 4K Cinematography
The Sony F55 formed the principal camera package. Its 4K recording, strong dynamic range and dependable production workflow made it well suited to a series combining high-end vehicles, exterior action and longer-form documentary coverage.
Meanwhile, the camera’s colour response helped retain detail across bright highlights, dark paintwork and mixed lighting conditions. This was particularly valuable when filming highly reflective cars in uncontrolled environments.
The resulting footage has a premium automotive finish without losing the immediacy of the encounters. Further examples of my factual television work can be viewed on my factual showreel.
International Factual-Entertainment Production
Insight TV’s official series page lists six episodes produced by Velocity Content, with the programme available in HD, UHD and HDR. The finished series brings together motoring, travel and character-led entertainment for an international audience.
Working on a production of this scale required a consistent visual language across different cars, communities and environments. Consequently, the cinematography needed to be technically robust, visually engaging and adaptable throughout the filming.
